In Panaji, the directorate of fisheries is introducing a pioneering initiative to modernize fish sales in the state by launching electric fishing vehicles (EVs). These new three-wheeler EVs feature solar power and electric charging capabilities, ensuring sustainable and eco-friendly operations. They are equipped with refrigerated compartments to maintain the freshness of the fish and also have a mobile sales platform. According to a department official, this marks the first EV specifically designed for selling fish in Goa. The vehicles will offer raw fish during the day and fried fish in the evening to cater to diverse consumer preferences.

The fisheries department will soon invite interested entrepreneurs to apply to operate these vehicles. Fish vendors and farmers are also encouraged to explore this new business opportunity. The initial launch will involve ten of these advanced vehicles, with plans to introduce 40 more later in the year. This initiative aims to support local fish vendors and enhance the seafood supply chain in Goa.

The launch of the ten EVs will take place on Monday during the Narali Poornima celebrations. This traditional festival, observed by fishing communities in the western coastal regions, including Goa, symbolizes devotion to the sea and protection. It also marks the beginning of the fishing season in the state.
